A Toast for Our Times to All the Dads Out There!

Postscript for those who may be wondering: The cancer is gone, and I continue to heal steadily. I can now talk intelligibly, eat most foods, and I’m getting around as well as Covid-19 allows. Taste is returning much sooner than I had thought. In fact, I can now tell the difference between a Martini and Clorox!

  1. Beautiful salut, Ken! When I first clicked on your blog I only saw the Martini glass – with spectacular background, cumulus clouds (our mutual favorite), river and flora – and thought, “ahh, that’s so sweet” – then scrolled down to discover the glass perched on a container of disinfectant wipes – yanking me back to the reality of pandemic permeating everything we do – and thought, “oh, right”. Wonderful juxtaposition.

I’m glad to hear your speech and taste are coming back – now that’s something to celebrate! Here’s to you Ken, and all who have battled cancer. May your taste buds continue to recover and those muscles involved in speech continue to strengthen. I look forward to when you will give us your toast in person – Here’s to friendship, Ken, and to life itself! Cheers!

  4. Ken, I am very pleased about your steady and remarkable healing. You cite a number of reasons you have been blessed, but for some people the most compelling evidence is that you actually have Clorox Wipes!

  5. A toast to YOU!

Yes, it’s a coffee cup, but it’s holding a scotch Manhattan, teehee. My bro’s came up yesterday to give me respite, so I am spending 2 nights at Surprise Valley Hot Springs, all by myself, and with Ruby, James’ dog. So happy to hear that you can start eating normal foods, being the foodie that you are. Keep it up! Hugs to you and Carol, Cyn

  6. Ah, Ken, you little scamp! You disclose a major milestone in your discerning palate’s return to action. Impressive.
But once gathering is someday again safe for us we must conduct the ultimate test: Martini v. COFFEE!

  8. Glad to hear your taste is returning although I’m not sure the bar is set high enough with your choice of Clorox and a Martini. It is good to know you won’t be drinking Clorox!

  9. Ken, you’ve captured the reality of these times both personally and culturally. Glad to hear there is no cancer and that taste has returned.
